ARESTIN® Student Access is a program sponsored by OraPharma, Inc., the makers of ARESTIN®, and designed with the help of dental educators, to provide students with clinical information and hands-on training in periodontal treatment including ARESTIN® + scaling and root planing (SRP).

Once you have completed the ARESTIN® Student Access Program, we hope you will have the knowledge you will need to recognize appropriate patients, convey the benefits of treatment, and provide treatment that includes ARESTIN® + SRP when indicated.

What to Expect From the ARESTIN® Student Access Program

The ARESTIN® Student Access Program is designed to complement your current periodontal coursework. The ARESTIN® Student Access Program is divided into 2 sections.

ARESTIN® 101 is an introduction to periodontal disease and treatment that includes ARESTIN® + SRP when indicated. Clinician-patient communication is also highlighted in this section.

  • Classwork focuses on disease state and clinical efficacy and safety data
  • Laboratory session focuses on proper placement of ARESTIN® and communication techniques that can be used to explain periodontal disease and treatment options

In ARESTIN® 101 you can expect to learn:

  1. The benefits of periodontal treatment that includes ARESTIN® + SRP when indicated
  2. The indication and contraindications for using ARESTIN®
  3. How and when ARESTIN® can be incorporated into a patient's treatment plan
  4. The importance of good patient communication

ARESTIN® 201 deals with the clinical use and application of ARESTIN® with an emphasis on patient selection and case study development.

  • Classwork focuses on appropriate treatment planning
  • Clinical session focuses on periodontal patient case development and treatment with ARESTIN®

In ARESTIN® 201 you can expect to learn how to:

  1. Review sample case studies
  2. Recognize appropriate patients for periodontal treatment that includes ARESTIN® + SRP
  3. Prepare a treatment plan for a periodontal patient
  4. Apply diagnostic guidelines in a clinical setting
  5. Demonstrate competency in using ARESTIN® in a clinical setting

INDICATION
ARESTIN® (minocycline HCl) Microspheres, 1 mg is indicated as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) procedures for reduction of pocket depth in patients with adult periodontitis. ARESTIN® may be used as part of a periodontal maintenance program, which includes good oral hygiene and SRP.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
ARESTIN® should not be used in any patient who has a known sensitivity to minocycline or tetracyclines. The use of drugs of the tetracycline class during tooth development may cause permanent discoloration of the teeth, and therefore should not be used in children or in pregnant or nursing women. Hypersensitivity reactions that included, but were not limited to, anaphylaxis, angioneurotic edema, urticaria, rash, swelling of the face and pruritus have been reported with the use of ARESTIN®. In clinical trials, the most frequently reported nondental treatment-emergent adverse events were headache, infection, flu syndrome and pain.
